Setup & best practices · Question 8
What are best practices for setting up Claude Code as a beginner?
- Write a
CLAUDE.md—start global in your home directory if that helps: role, projects, output preferences. - Add supporting files such as tone and a lightweight projects index.
- Install a small MCP set: web search plus whatever you touch daily (Calendar, Notion, Slack, etc.).
- Ship two or three skills you will actually run (morning briefing, content draft, meeting recap). One dependable skill beats ten abandoned experiments.
- If terminals stress you out, lean on the desktop app first—it covers most workflows.
