Setup & best practices · Question 8

What are best practices for setting up Claude Code as a beginner?

  1. Write a CLAUDE.md—start global in your home directory if that helps: role, projects, output preferences.
  2. Add supporting files such as tone and a lightweight projects index.
  3. Install a small MCP set: web search plus whatever you touch daily (Calendar, Notion, Slack, etc.).
  4. Ship two or three skills you will actually run (morning briefing, content draft, meeting recap). One dependable skill beats ten abandoned experiments.
  5. If terminals stress you out, lean on the desktop app first—it covers most workflows.
